In early 1990, Factory in Manchester decided to secure better commercial backings
(with obviously higher advances) through major labels, so all globally existing
licensing deals were re-negotiated.
For that, Factory UK boss Tony Wilson travels to Sydney and negotiations are held
with several Australian labels.
Festival Records Pty Ltd. makes the highest offer and so the entire
catalogue moves to the Sydney based company.
Starting in June 1990, Festival Records re-issues the Factory Australasia back-catalogue and the
new Factory releases, always applying their own numbering system.
Important note:
Many of the early Festival Records releases (especially New Order and Joy Division) are reissues
of initial Factory Australasia releases, only discernable by a sticker on the back cover.
Without that sticker, the releases are not identifiable as Festival Records releases.
